Twice Mercury-nominated British singer-songwriter and former music teacher Laura Mvula has joined Casio’s ‘Action in Music’ initiative to launch Classic FM’s Music Teacher of the Year Awards with Casio and ABRSM.
Celebrating the best of music education in the UK, and raising awareness of its importance in the classroom, the Awards will honour five teachers who have contributed significantly to the musical lives of young people across the country.
Looking back at her own education in music, Laura visited the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton where she used to be a pupil to launch the campaign in schools and encourage pupils to nominate the teachers that have inspired them to learn more about music, before she joins the judging panel of industry experts who will select the winners in July 2017.
We joined up with Tom Cassidy, Xi Form Principle at Cambridge International School (CIS) in Cambridge, and his students to find out about their passion for creating music and their impressions of the action and sound from the Celviano Grand Hybrid piano.
Okiem - a professional pianist, performer and composer - has played with many of the music industry's greatest artists including John Legend, Prince, Boy George, Leona Lewis and Tinie Tempah.
Here he talks about Casio's Action In Music initiative, as well as his impressions of the Celviano Grand Hybrid, made in collaboration with C. Bechstein.
